Mercer County Commissioners recently accepted a grant worth more than $415,000 in state funds to purchase land for the Coldwater Creek Treatment Train Project. The grant brings the $2.5 million project one step closer to fruition, along with $2.1 million earmarked in the ODNR budget.

Coldwater Creek is considered the most-polluted Grand Lake St. Marys tributary; after a treatment train installed at Prairie Creek proved reintroducing wetlands to the lake can reduce phosphorus loading – the primary cause of algal blooms – plans were made to expand the treatment train at Prairie Creek and install treatment trains on Coldwater Creek and Beaver Creek.
