In an article titled "Business as usual in Lake Erie with similar limits," published by the Toledo Blade, Outdoors Editor Steve Pollick states of Lake Erie:

"…big problems such as the ongoing blue-green algae plague on the western Lake Erie fishing and spawning grounds need to be addressed, big-time, lest the basin turn in to a mega-version of Grand Lake St. Marys, Ohio’s largest inland lake at 13,000 acres and which is a disaster area thanks to years of untended farm-fertilizer runoff and unregulated household septic-tank failures, among other factors…"
