October 3, 2009 MEETING
Note: the Executive Board voted to eliminate the January 2010 meeting, due to its proximity to the holidays, when attendance is down. Mark your calendar!! At the recent board meeting, an amendment to the by-laws changing the number of trustees from four to six was approved for membership vote. This proposed by-law change must be read at two meetings before being voted upon by the membership to be enacted. The first reading was at this October meeting; the second reading will be at the November meeting, after which the vote will be taken. Trustee Dave Meyer reports from the nominating committee that candidates are needed to run for all offices, including four trustee positions if the addition is approved. All offices are being vacated, except for the office of vice-president. Please consider filling one of these openings!! All nominations must be in by the November 7 meeting. We also need a manager for our website – if you have expertise in this field, contact Dave if interested in becoming our new web manager.
Stump-pulling has started; if you encounter one, mark it with a gallon plastic jug (colored if possible). Jeff Vossler presented the hand-made quilt donated to the L.I.A. by Susan Reed of Celina. A professional evaluation of this beautiful piece of handiwork – hand-stitched squares, machine quilted and anchored - placed its value at a minimum of $250. For a chance to own or to have this work of art for Christmas giving, phone your bid to Jeff, or for more information call him at 419-394-7324. This is a silent auction; minimum bid is $250 . . . you can still see the quilt at the November meeting. It will be presented to the winner at the December meeting.
Grant writer Ron Puthoff tells us that more than 200 acres of land on the south side of the lake have been purchased by the Franklin Township Trustees up to now. They are looking into the purchase of a tract at the corner of Club Island Road and State Route 219; a trail may be in the works also.
Mercer County Soil & Water Conservation District will hold its annual banquet on Tuesday, November 17 at the Coldwater American Legion. Tickets are $5 per person and may be obtained at their office at 220 W. Livingston St. in Celina. The meal is always delicious and the entertainment afterwards is great as well.
Tom Rampe continues to work on behalf of the L.I.A. following up on the appeal with the Ohio Environmental Review Appeals Commission over the granting of an EPA permit that would allow wetlands to be destroyed to build the Watercolor Estates subdivision near Southshore Acres in Auglaize County. Sometime after the first of the year, there will likely be a public hearing on this matter.
