Lake Improvement Association Minutes
12-01-07
Due to health reasons, the secretary and treasurer were not in attendance, so a monthly newsletter was not sent out to the general membership this month.
President Bill Ringo opened the meeting with committee reports the annual audit has not yet been completed due to the illness of the treasurer. Map Committee reports that there will be a proof of the new maps available very soon, after which they will go to print. Jeff Vossler reported on Novembers L.R.C. meeting which featured a representative from the Mercer County Health Department who spoke on the latest status of the countys septic systems. He also reported on a November in Fort Wayne with the Army Corps of Engineers, having sent them a packet of information regarding our watershed issues.
Laura Walker, Grand Lake Watershed Coordinator, announced that water monitoring will continue now that we have an official EPA qualified data collector. Laura will be finalizing the monitoring plan for approval, after which private monitoring can begin. Two priorities will be adopted by the watershed: agriculture incentives and shoreline protection. Discussion followed on a possible federal agriculture bill.
Assistant Park Manager Brian Miller held discussion on status of shoreline protection projects, which still await the $450,000 approved by the state, yet not forthcoming as yet. He reports the new boathouse to be constructed at the West Bank is in the design phase, with hopes for construction to begin in late winter. Dredges are now in the shop being winterized. There will be three fireworks events in 2008. Pheasants Forever Banquet will be January 26, 2008 at the St. Henry American Legion at a cost of $80 per couple or $60 for a single.
Bill recognized Jeff Vossler and Vic Woodall, each of whom has chaired the Lake Restoration Committee since its inception in August of 2003. They both worked diligently to accomplish the goals set forth at the beginning. Since our goals now are aligned with the Grand Lake/Wabash Watershed Alliance Action Plan, and so as to speak and be heard with one voice, the LRC will no longer meet as a separate entity. Congrats to Jeff and Vic for a job well done, with our sincere thanks!!
Election of officers no one has volunteered to run for an office, nor were there any nominations from the floor. Thus, the current slate of officers being willing to serve again for another year, all were re-elected by acclamation. Similarly, trustees Jeff Vossler and Larry Poppe consented to serve another two-year term, so they were re-elected as well.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Next L.I.A. meeting:
SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 2008
