Lake Improvement Association Minutes
3/03/07
President Ringo opened the March 3 meeting with an address to the membership announcing a year-long observance of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the L.I.A. A copy of his address can be found on the website for those who missed it. A huge decorated sheet cake was enjoyed by all, including local officials and state ODNR dignitaries who attended this celebratory meeting.
After the pledge of allegiance to the flag and secretary and treasurer reports were approved from the February meeting, President Ringo introduced Bob Grimm, who chairs the 60-Year Celebration Committee. Bob introduced Craig Morton, Park Manager, who in turn introduced Glen Cobb, former Grand Lake St. Marys Park Manager from 1991 to 1999. Glen is currently Group Leader of Field Support Section of ODNR in Columbus. Glen has worked at all levels of Ohio State Parks, which didn't even exist as an entity until 1949, two years after the L.I.A. was founded. He congratulated the L.I.A. on its accomplishments over these past 60 years, urging that we continue our efforts to clean up the waters of Grand Lake. He presented a beautiful carved wooden plaque replicating Grand Lake to the L.I.A. as a token of the high regard in which the L.I.A. leadership is held at the state level.
Dave Meyer reports that the "Step Outside" grant of $500 has been approved by the Division of Wildlife and the check will be forthcoming for the Special Kids Fishing Derby to be held Wednesday May 16 at the East Bank Shelterhouse.
Jeff Vossler announced per Tom Rampe attending a recent Board of Health meeting that 40 permits to start a new septic system under the old guidelines have been denied - new systems must conform to new standards - good news for future water quality in Grand Lake. At the upcoming Lake Restoration Committee meeting, guest will be John Smith of the Ohio Extension Office, speaking on best management practices for all members of the watershed. Recently-installed sediment traps at five different locations around the lake are working very efficiently.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned with the 50/50 drawing of $47 to Harold Van Horn, who donated it back to the treasury for the Kids Fishing Derby. All then enjoyed cake and coffee.
