President Ringo introduced Brent Trump, Supervisor of Watercraft, who noted that the week of May 19 is National Safe Boating Week. Free boat safety inspections will be held 8:00-12:00 noon on Saturday May 21 at the West Bank ramp; Friday May 25, East Bank ramp, and on Saturday May 26 at West Bank ramp. Brent fielded a few questions relating to boater safety, saying that anyone born after January 1, 1982 operating a boat must have a permit certifying completion of a state-sponsored course on boater safety.
Jeff Vossler announced that Dan West, ODNR Chief of Parks and Recreation, will be Grand Marshal of the Celina Lake Festival boat parade on July 27. The Lost Weekend houseboat will lead the parade. Registration forms are available on our website at www.lakeimprovement.com or from any officer or board member. Let's make this parade a great one - Commodore Bob Grimm invites everyone to enter their boat (decorated or not) and make this a good showing for the L.I.A., official sponsor of the parade.
Calendar Note: the July 7 L.I.A. meeting will be at Behm's Landing at 11:00 a.m., after which a pig roast/picnic will be held in celebration of our 60-year anniversary - all L.I.A. members are welcome. Tom Rampe says Mercer County Soil & Water District will host a program showing how to take a soil sampling of your lawn, as well as proper fertilizing techniques at the Harbor Point 4-H Camp on Thursday, July 19 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sample test kits will be available free of charge. Today Theresa sent along brochures detailing lawn fertilization techniques and tips; reminder - use phosphorus-free products when possible.
Bob Hoersting, Bar Stool Open Chairman, reports Mercer Beverage will again provide printed publicity items gratis; T-shirts are in the works, and things are shaping up well for August 11, 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Many judges will be needed - please set aside this day to help in our biggest fund raiser.
Lake level is 9" above pool level. Watch out for blue buoys across the bay east of Windy Point while dredging continues in that area. Remember swimming is allowed in the lake only in designated areas; it is illegal to be in the lake off a boat anywhere else. Swimming off private property is permitted only within 100' of the property - no further out. No inflatable devices such as platforms, trampolines, etc. are permitted in Ohio state park waters. Mother's Day and Father's Day will be observed at the campground with special events. THANKS to all who participated in Lake Clean-up Day April 28 - it was a big success - more than 100 garbage bags collected.
A special thanks to all members who included extra donations for lake restoration projects along with their dues returns. Your gifts will go a long way toward restoring our beautiful lake. Way to Go!!
If you haven't sent your 2007 dues payment, PLEASE do it now; after the next meeting, only paid-up members will receive the monthly newsletter. Belinda Froning, Secretary.
