Will the fertilizer certification program cut algal blooms? The question was posed by Columbus Dispatch reporter Jim Siegel in a recent article published here

The article discusses whether manure should have been included in the program as well as whether the current fertilizer standards are enough to keep nutrients on farmland and reduce nutrient-rich runoff that leads to algal blooms.

It also covers the ongoing study to determine how effective different policies are in combating algal blooms; the three-year study, conducted by The Ohio State University and funded by the Ohio Farm Bureau, won't be complete for two years.
